Session explains the importance of UHF RFID in the Internet of Things

Pittsburgh, PA – April 13, 2015

The RAIN RFID Alliance will host a session at the IDTechEx Conference on the Internet of Things (IoT) in Berlin, Germany on Wednesday 29 April.  The session is part of a broader look at the role UHF RFID has in the Internet of Things. The majority of IoT enabled items use RAIN, a UHF RFID wireless communications technology, in many vertical markets including retail, healthcare, electronics, logistics, manufacturing, consumer experience and many more, globally.

“The origin of the term ‘Internet of Things’ revolved around the ability to collect data using RFID,” said Steve Halliday, President of RAIN RFID Alliance. “This is even more relevant today as the data from ten billion RAIN tags already in use provides the information needed in many IoT applications.”

The session, Data at the Edge – RAIN RFID, will include five presentations:

  • RAIN RFID: Latest Technical Progress – Frithjof Walk, Sales Manager of OBID
  • How RAIN RFID is used in Retail Stores to Allow Omni-Channel – Danny Haak of Nedap
  • Evolving Use Cases and Business Models for RAIN RFID in Retail – Antonio Rizzi of the University of Parma
  • Insight from one of the World’s Largest RAIN RFID Tag Producers – William Toney of Avery Dennison
  • Made to Order – Lars Thuring of Logopak Systeme GmbH

Added Halliday, “Over the years RAIN and other technologies have evolved including how they analyze and take action based on the data they have collected. This conference will give everyone a great update on the growth of the IoT and RAIN markets.”

Raghu Das, CEO of IDTechEx, says, “We are at an exciting time when many new technologies such as IoT, wearable technology, printed electronics and sensors are coming together. Billion Euro opportunities await. The IDTechEx Show! brings this together, with end user speakers ranging from Tesco to Jaguar Land Rover and Shell to Decathlon. RAIN RFID is one of the key enablers. Learn all about the hottest technologies and most importantly their applications in Berlin on April 28-29.”

There will also be a RAIN RFID Alliance booth (G16) at the IDTechEx Conference, so you can stop by and learn more.
