About Us

The Radio Regulations Advisory Council is a forum for coordinating regulatory meetings, events and activities, ensuring alignment on meeting inputs, and preparing RAIN members for upcoming regulatory engagements.

Council Leader:  Joe Preishuber-Pflügl, RAIN Alliance

Ongoing Activites

The council is focusing on understanding and tracking regulatory activities, and providing deeper insights into technical aspects while coordinating overall RAIN Alliance initiatives. Current focus areas include Europe (ETSI and CEPT), USA (FCC),  and new radio regulations in Africa and Asia.

RAIN RFID technology is usually used in the 860 – 930 MHz range, whereas most countries worldwide allow either the 865-868 MHz range or the 902 – 928 MHz rangeAn overview of global radio regulations applicable for RAIN RFID is available at GS1. CEPT maintains the latest implementation status of the 915-921 MHz band, whereas the successful national implementations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, MontenegroPoland, and Türkiye are pending update in this list. The RAIN Alliance is deeply engaged in global radio regulations; we are currently addressing the European 915-921 MHz spectrum extension.

See the following resources below:

  • A leaflet, RAIN Alliance Recommendations on the use of Upper European Band, summarizes the benefits of the so-called European upper band from 915-921 MHz.
  • A leaflet, RAIN Alliance Recommendations on UHF RFID radio spectrum, shows how available spectrum could be used for RAIN RFID.
  • RAIN RFID System Design Guidelines Air Interface and Protocol Considerations contain technical details on these topics.

If you have any questions, please contact Josef Preishuber-Pflügl.
