In less than two decades, RAIN Alliance member Xiamen Xindeco IOT Technology Co., Ltd., has grown from a startup company to one of the three largest RFID tag manufacturers in the world. Its manufacturing output is staggering. This explosive growth is being fueled, in part, by the industry’s appetite for RAIN RFID products but also by companies like Xindeco IOT that are investing in product and manufacturing innovation.

As a founder and General Manager of the company, Xu Shouhui has been involved with Xindeco IOT success from the beginning. He agreed to share some of his thoughts on the industry as well as more information about the company.

Tell us about your company. What do you do there?

Xiamen Xindeco IOT Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2005, with our hard work and passion over the past 16 years, we have become a top three RFID tag manufacturer in the world. Xindeco IOT now has three billion pieces of annual capacity and we plan to reach 10 billion pieces within five years. We are dedicated to driving RFID tags innovation and manufacturing, providing the highest quality of RFID products and premium services for customers. Together with our partners, we have also established industrial standards as well as contributing to the industry ecosystem.

As the founder and general manager of the company, I have always worked closely with my partners with the goal of providing the best quality industry labels. Our goal is to solve customer problems by leveraging the core values of the RFID industry and the power of the Internet of Things. At the same time, we are dedicated to co-creation, sharing and promoting win-win results for the RFID ecosystem.

What, in your opinion, is the single biggest challenge or opportunity faced by RAIN RFID companies today?

In general, one of the major challenges faced by the RFID industry is intensive industry competition and the issues of price and cost control. At the same time, we are also welcoming the rapid growth of the RFID industry from tens of billions to hundreds of billions of applications. Another challenge brought by this is the need for a robust production and R&D capability. All these challenges are being addressed to help establish an industry ecosystem that is “win-win” for every partner.

In 2021, the RFID industry is facing chip shortage with the resulting price increase. I believe the chip shortage problem could be effectively solved in the near future, while the price may continue to increase. Thinking from a positive perspective, the chip shortage crisis will return the price of RFID products to normal, increase product profit margins, and help business development. At the same time, rising costs will also prompt customers to think thoroughly about the adoption of RFID technology like RAIN. This could help with the implementation of RAIN RFID projects and the further development of the industry.

Why did you join the RAIN Alliance? What has the RAIN Alliance meant to your organization?

Xindeco IoT has been committed to promoting the development of the RAIN RFID industry for decades, which coincides with the original intention and mission of the RAIN RFID Alliance. Our original intention to join the RAIN Alliance was to be part of an organization where we could combine industry resources and expertise in order for the entire industry to establish a more mature and complete ecosystem. This is why Xindeco IoT joined the RAIN Alliance at the end of 2017, and in 2018 we successfully hosted the most successful RAIN Alliance conference in history.

When you are not working, what do you do for fun?

I like hiking and swimming, and most often I go hiking with my friends and teammates. I think hiking is best enjoyed in a team, as all of us can share the moments and have fun together. Also, hiking is a good team building activity.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the RFID space?

“RFID” covers a wide variety of areas and applications. Those who are new to RFID should make sure to clearly understand their needs and requirements first. Most of the time we see people searching around and taking a long time to identify what it is they really want. That slows down the whole project roll-out. In addition to label manufacturing, Xindeco IoT also has a top class system integration team in China. After years of successful case implementation and experience, we understand customer pain points and can provide customers with reasonable suggestions at the initial stage of a project. I highly recommend people to talk with industry experts directly to identify the need on Day One.

Finally, when it comes to questions about RAIN RFID the best place to start is at the RAIN Alliance as the organization serves as the “face and voice” of RAIN RFID and acts as a central resource for everything about RAIN RFID.
