      • While the number of RAIN tags sold is already in the billions and quite a few retailers have adopted RAIN RFID, we are nowhere close to realising the full potential of RAIN RFID. Danny will explain what he believes companies inside RAIN should do to grow this adoption at a faster rate.
    • Security Needs in RAIN RFID – Ralf Kodritsch, Global Segment Manager of RFID Solutions at NXP
      • The internet of things is about to change our daily life. All “things” will get connected, all things become smart and interact with the environment and / or with each other. But how do I know that the “thing” I am communicating with is authentic? Security will become more and more important as the IoT evolves. This opens up new significant growth opportunities for the RAIN RFID industry and will it deliver benefits to the RAIN solution providers and the end users alike.
    • Simon and Speck – Lightweight block ciphers – Louis Wingers, U.S. Department of Defense
      • Abstract:  SIMON and SPECK are lightweight block ciphers designed by NSA cryptographers for use in highly constrained environments, including RFID.  They come in a variety of block and key sizes, are easy to implement and have record breaking performance in hardware and software.  After more than two years of intensive cryptanalysis by the international cryptographic community, SIMON and SPECK remain unscathed and maintain a healthy security margin against future attacks.  The algorithms have been submitted for standardization as a part of the ISO lightweight block cipher standard, ISO 29192-2 (which currently contains the PRESENT and CLEFIA ciphers) and are currently in the review process.  We describe the algorithms and discuss their performance merits.
    • Digital Signatures and RAIN – Bertus Pretorius, LicenSys
      • The purpose, method and use of ISO/IEC 20248 will be discussed and demonstrated at the hand of a verifiable certificate using a QR, NFC and RAIN tag.  An QR way-bill with a RAIN container seal will also be discussed.  ISO/IEC 20248 is an X.509 application standard specifically aimed to digitally sign data to be used in a resource constraint device, for example RAIN.  The aim of this discussion is to illustrate how ISO/IEC provides inter AIDC media interoperability, Domain/Issuing authority interoperability, off-line verification and seamless data structure change roll-over.  The latter provides a very effective way to ensure all tags in the field remains verifiable even with data structure changes.  Its potential application within IoT and as a key management mechanism will be illustrated.
    • Algebraic Eraser™: Benefits and implementation of Public-Key Security for RAIN Tags – Louis Parks, CEO Secure RF and Mike McGregor
      • As RAIN tags enter the Internet of Things landscape, security and privacy options will play a greater role.  The Algebraic Eraser™ (AE), introduced by Anshel, Anshel, Goldfeld, and Lemieux in 2006, is a Diffie-Hellman-like key agreement protocol which was designed to be suitable for implementation on low-cost platforms with constrained computational resources which are associated with RAIN tags and the Internet of Things. It addresses the privacy and security needs of IoT related consumer products, brand protection, medical devices, building/home automation, credentials, automotive systems, and mobile payments now being developed.
