  UHF RFID Global Regulations

WAKEFIELD, MA– April 17, 2023 – The RAIN Alliance today announced Josef Preishuber-Pflügl as its new Head of Regulatory Affairs. In this role, Preishuber-Pflügl will leverage his extensive industry experience to track and influence regulatory activities for the RAIN RFID frequency bands, ensuring that RAIN Alliance members are briefed on any significant developments or proposals. In addition, Preishuber-Pflügl will work with members to maintain and enhance the UHF frequency bands for RAIN RFID. RAIN is the brand name for passive Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID wireless technology that a variety of industries around the world use every day to identify, manage, and engage with trillions of items simply and inexpensively.

“The RAIN Alliance is keen to maintain a successful path forward for radio regulations,” said RAIN Alliance President and CEO Aileen Ryan. “Josef’s knowledge and experience will help our members understand the key developments, as well as how they can contribute to and comply with global radio regulations. This is especially timely given that Europe is a hot spot for current developments.”

“The RAIN Alliance is working for all its members in the industry, making sure RAIN RFID is adequately considered in all spectrum regulatory discussions,” said Preishuber-Pflügl. “As RAIN members deploy this technology globally, it is important to align with the global federal radio regulations for UHF RFID, for easier product design and interoperability of products internationally.”

Preishuber-Pflügl’s career spans product management, NFC+RFID chip design, and international standardization and radio regulation in a variety of technology firms and industry associations including CISC Semiconductor GmbH and Philips (now NXP).

He joined the RAIN Alliance shortly after founding Innobir, a consulting firm with a focus on wireless technologies, utilizing his experience in NFC, RAIN RFID, and UWB technologies.
