April 10, 2024 — Powercast launched its Extended-Temperature RAIN RFID Reader Module designed to integrate into high-temperature RFID readers that need to reliably operate in extreme conditions.

The ruggedized module, operating from -40°C to +85°C, is designed to both communicate with and power RFID tag devices in conditions where typical reader modules, operating from -20°C to 70°C, could overheat and fail.

Powercast chose the Impinj E710 reader chip to provide RAIN RFID read/write capability and IoT device connectivity. The companies’ technologies combine to enable RFID readers that can efficiently identify, locate, authenticate, and power large groups of tagged items quickly.

The module features:

  • Impinj E710 RAIN RFID reader chip for communication and power.
  • FCC modular certification supporting 902-928MHz ISM frequency band operation.
  • Support for up to 4 antennas via U.FL/UMCC connectors.
  • RF power levels up to +30dBm.

The module was also a finalist in the Best New Product Awards at the RFID Journal LIVE show, held April 9 – 11 in Las Vegas, NV.
